Blizzard has just revealed the Rise of Shadows expansion for Hearthstone, meaning that - starting on April 9 - players can begin Hearthstone's first year-long storyline, as was revealed earlier this year, including 135 new cards and of course some new mechanics too.

"After suffering defeat at the hands of the League of Explorers, Arch-Thief Rafaam realized that his designs on Azeroth would require more roguery than he alone could muster," the official description reads. "In the years since, he has dwelled in the shadows, recruiting the greatest antagonists Hearthstone has ever seen to join the League of E.V.I.L.—a veritable supergroup of villains from previous Hearthstone sets, including King Togwaggle, Madame Lazul, the irrepressible Dr. Boom, and Hagatha the Witch. In Rise of Shadows, these ne'er-do-wells will once again act on their nefarious intentions, aided by Hearthstone players looking to get their hands dirty."

This League of E.V.I.L. has 1/1 minions with battlecries, which will help you launch the new spells called Schemes that grow in power each turn they're in your hand. Callback cards will also be included, featuring effects that pay homage to the masterminds' homes.

"Hearthstone has a cast of fan-favorite villains, and it's a thrill to see them take center stage in Rise of Shadows," said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment. "We can't wait for players to get in on the mayhem in this expansion, with a bunch of sinister new cards at their disposal."

The League of E.V.I.L. will be facing the Defenders of Dalaran as they look to cause trouble, and they can use Twinspells against you that, once they're cast, generate a copy of themselves to be cast again. Blizzard promises more on the Defenders of Dalaran at a later date though, so stay tuned.

Players can buy the card packs with real money or in-game gold, or alternatively they can win them in the Arena Mode as well. You can pre-purchase card packs either in the 50-pack pre-purchase bundle that includes a random Legendary and Jewel of Lazul card back, while the 80-pack Mega Bundle has a random golden Legendary and Jewel of Lazul card back alongside a new playable Priest Hero, the Madame Lazul. These are available for £44.99 (49.99 euros) and £69.99 (79.99 euros) respectively.

Additionally, the accompanying Solo Adventure will be released in May, with the first chapter available for free. Additional chapters, however, can be unlocked for 700 gold each, or £16.99 (19.99 euros). Again, more information is promised soon.
