Ancestors Legacy

Release date confirmed for Ancestors Legacy

Beta up and running, new trailer and screens land.

There has been a renewed interest in Vikings in video games of late, and we've enjoyed playing with and against these intrepid warriors in games like For Honor, Northguard, Zombie Vikings: Stab-a-thon, Civilization VI, Expeditions: Viking, just to name a few. Not to mention upcoming games like Rune: Ragnarok, A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, and The Banner Saga 3. Even the next God of War is based on Norse mythology.

Then there's Ancestors Legacy, a game that just had its release date confirmed, with it launching on May 22 on both PC and Xbox One. Destructive Creations is developing the title, with 1C handling the distribution. It's an RTS with a squad focus (think Company of Heroes but with axes instead of guns), and it features four playable factions in a historically-inspired campaign, along with additional multiplayer modes to spice things up.

Fortunately, if that sounds like your cup of mead and you really want to wreak havoc straight away, you can start playing today as a beta has just launched on Steam (and it seems to be fairly chunky judging by the press release):

"Ancestors Legacy is now open for everyone to try out its multiplayer on their own. All four nations represented in the game are playable within the open beta version on one of the three maps, ranging in size from 2 to 6 players (1v1, 2v2 and 3v3). The fans can be accompanied by the AI, their best friend, the neighbor's kid, or simply join the lobby and wait for a partner to be found."

We've also been sent a new trailer showing off the game, as well as a couple of screenshots, which you can find below.
