It seems that some of the microtransactions that are present in Phantom Pain actually lock out some features from players who don't want to part with real money. The news come from Gamespot, who report that building an off-shore base can't be done without using some real money.

This off-shore located base was featured in one of the gameplay videos depicting how another player attacks it in order to steal resources from the other player. But now it seems that this mode will only open if you also open your wallet. The space where you're building your own Forward Operations Base must be bought with MB Coins, which can only be acquired through purchase with real money.

Gamespot has reached out to a Konami representative for comment, but they wouldn't go into details. More info should be coming this week. The site couldn't verify prices for MB Coins or anything as yet, as the game's servers are still offline.

Below you can see how raiding another base works, but would you be willing to pay for it? Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is released on September 1 on consoles and PC. Metal Gear Online is set to launch in October.
