On the day of That Dragon, Cancer's release - now available on PC and Ouya - Razer has announced that all the proceeds from the sales of the heartfelt title that come via Razer Cortex for Android TV, will be donated to two cancer charities (Morgan Adams Foundation, which directly funds cancer research through working with physicians, and Family House SF, which provides free housing to families visiting hospitals in San Francisco to undergo prolonged clinical trials and treatment).
Developed by Numinous Games, That Dragon, Cancer tells the dramatic ordeal experienced by Ryan Green (one of the developers of the game) and his wife Amy, who, in a few months, witnessed the slow and agonising journey towards death of their five-year-old son, Joel. The game was largely funded by OUYA, which was acquired by Razer in July 2015.
"When we first acquired OUYA, it was with the vision of bringing Android gaming to the living room," says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. "By doing that, we now have the opportunity to give back to the community in a big way, by bringing this game to the public and by making sure all our proceeds go right back into the fight against cancer."
Numinous Games is inviting all their supporters and players to host a pancake party for friends and family - pancakes were Joel's favourite food, as we discovered playing the game - and post pictures to social media channels with the hashtag #thatdragoncancer.
