SCEE announced this week that the new Ratchet & Clank 3D animated movie, created by Rainmaker Entertainment Blockade Entertainment and naturally launched by Sony themselves, will be released in Europe and the US on April 28 (or 29, depending on your country). Ratchet & Clank: The Movie has been directed by Kevin Munroe and Jericca Cleland and its story is based on the popular action-platformer by Insomniac Games, specifically the very first friendship story between the two protagonists, the lombax repair guy and the sentinel robot.

The launch date is just the week after the release date for the new PS4 videogame, entitled Ratchet & Clank, which launches April 20. The game is "much more than a remake of the first entry in the series" (the PS2 game) according to Insomniac, and includes both revamped stages, mechanics and sequences directly taken from the movie. The game tells the story from Captain Copernicus L. Qwark's perspective instead (but of course you control Ratchet & Clank along with a range of weapons and vehicles), so both products complement each other.

Gamereactor attended to a preview event last week and you'll find gameplay, hands-on impressions and an interview on the game soon.
