During our time at PAX East we were fortunate enough to get an unscheduled interview with Mitch Chapman from Zodiac Interactive, talking about their new title RAN: Lost Islands. When we asked Chapman about the game, he gave us a brilliant description on what to expect, saying that "Lost Islands is a battle royale epic meets a survival game where you don't have to just kill everyone else".
Lost Islands is a PvP medieval melee combat game, where the idea isn't to necessarily eliminate everyone on the map, as the only goal is to escape the island on the rescue ship. To do this, players can go solo and try to escape on their own, or they can form an alliance with other players to work together.
Chapman gave us an insight into how these alliances usually go. "What we found is that alliances will all get on the rescue ship but then don't want to share it with anyone else. Maybe that's like a social experiment and that's the result. It's kind of interesting to see how it all works out," he said.
While Lost Islands is classed as a melee combat game, ballistics firearms will be available to players. Chapman shed some light onto how the combat works in the game, explaining: "we have a big emphasis on old classical melee combat, like swords and maces, but players can still pick up an old rickety musket. However, in my experience, picking up a sword and swinging wildly, goes a long way."
RAN: Lost Islands is hoping for a PC and PS4 release by the end of the year, although Chapman did say they were hoping to get a beta out within the next few months, once they've ironed out most of the bugs found in early alpha games.
Does Lost Islands look like a game you would be interested in playing?
