The recently formed CS:GO team Godsent had a breakout performance at DreamHack Masters Malmö, making it all the way to the semifinals and taking down much more established teams along the way.
We caught team captain and founder Markus "pronax" Wallsten just as Godsent had taken down Mousesports 2-1 in an intense quarterfinal to hear his thoughts both on their surprise impact at the tournament.
"We obviously though that we could go this far," says pronax, "but we said that we wanted to go into the tournament and just take it one game at a time. And just test ourselves and see where we stand compared to the other teams. That was basically our goal."
"Our first goal was obviously to get past group stages, but I'm honestly starting to believe that we can win the whole thing," he says, speaking before Godsent went up against their fellow Swedes Ninjas in Pyjamas - and lost - in the semifinals.
We also asked him about whether founding his own team was always in the cards. Back when pronax stepped down from Fnatic, after having led the team through the most succesful era in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, many thought he would outright retire. But that was never the plan, he says.
"The plan was always to come back, but I had to take a break because of a wrist injury. I didn't know that we'd create our own brand, it was something we thought about but we looked at other options as well. But we thought this was the best way to go."
We'll have many more interviews from DreamHack Masters Malmö coming up in the next few days.
