Last month a Neogaf forum user shared a trademark registration made by Bungie for The Taken King, and we suspect that it might possibly be the name of a future expansion for Destiny.

Whether or not it's a potential title for the next major expansion for Bungie's shooter remains to be seen, but having seen promotional material from Red Bull (see below) there's certainly something with that name cooking over at the studio.

There were previously leaked materials (that certainly look convincing) that suggest the next expansion for Destiny is going to be called Comet: Plague of Darkness, and that it'll be a standalone offering. Destiny 1.5 if you will.

Whether The Taken King is a different name for that, one of the subsequent expansions, or even a smaller update tied to a marketing deal with Red Bull, remains unclear. Maybe it's a new Raid?!

No doubt the picture will become clearer as we get closer to its launch. Or, you know, during E3 later this month.

Destiny's latest expansion, House of Wolves, was released May 19, so were guessing it might be some time before we get to dig into something new. Time will tell. We'll keep you posted as and when we know more.
