Popular TV show Friends leaves Netflix for new HBO service
HBO is getting ready to launch a new streaming service and has already recruited some big names for exclusive content and some big-time classic shows for the platform.
The popular TV classic Friends will be leaving Netflix next year and while this has been a known fact for a while, few knew where the series' 236 episodes would end up - until now, that is (via Variety). The streaming industry has skyrocketed lately and it seems as though every big media company is creating one (if they don't already have one active) and while HBO has been offering movies and TV shows for a while, the media giant WarnerMedia is working on launching yet another streaming service next year.
Joining HBO Now and HBO Go, the new direct-to-consumer streaming service HBO Max will offer content exclusively created for the service as well as every single episode of Friends, among other shows. Apparently, the service is set to launch in 2020 with 10,000 hours of content and in that mix, we'll be getting exclusive movie productions from Greg Berlanti (who will be creating four young-adult centred films) and Reese Witherspoon (who will produce at least two films for HBO Max).
The price of the service isn't yet known.
