Gamesbeat reports that PopCap Games CEO Dave Roberts will step down from his position on January 8, leaving co-founder John Vechey in charge of the EA owned Seattle studio.
EA purchased the maker of Bejeweled, Peggle, Zuma and Plants vs. Zombies in 2011 for a reported $750 million, but PopCap have struggled to adapt to the new free-to-play/freemium climate. Vechey, who is the last remaining co-founder of PopCap as Jason Kapalka leaves the studio at the same time as Roberts wants to focus on new IP and on introducing monetisation early in development.
"PopCap's mission right now is to create the greatest mobile game studio in the world, and we're going to do that by only making games that are beloved by players. We're focusing on our foundation in 2014 - talent, process, and most importantly, great products, around that mission."
