It's been a wild ride, and even though it might be far from over, Niantic Labs has had to give up their game's top placement on the App Store. The March title from Supercell has reclaimed the throne after Pokémon Go's reign since its release in June.

According to Sensor Tower, Pokémon Go had grossed $440 million USD as of September 1, which is quite a lot for a free-to-play game. We're not quite ready to say its success is over, because if you're number two on App Store you still have some traction.

With over 500 million downloads across iOS and Android, the market may have been saturated. If so, all that remains is making money off microtransactions from the 500 million downloads - and the quite pricey peripheral, Pokémon Go Plus.
