Earlier this morning we reported that Sony is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original release of the PlayStation today, and now the official Twitter account for PlayStation has revealed that they've received a Guinness World Record for the "best-selling home video game console brand ever".
450 million units have been sold across the four PlayStation home consoles as of November 7, according to Guinness World Records, and two of them are the best-selling home consoles ever - the PS2 at number one, with the PS4 close behind, having just overtaken the Nintendo Wii earlier this year.
This is a big deal when you consider the extended portfolio of Nintendo in particular, which has had the NES, SNES, GameCube, Wii, and more under its belt, although Microsoft's Xbox is understandably behind, considering the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles haven't been around for as long.
The PlayStation has of course been bolstered by plenty of big exclusive titles over the past two decades, from The Last of Us to God of War and many other titles, which is a big part of the brand's appeal for gamers.
Where can the PlayStation brand go from here?
