PlayStation 4 is fastest selling UK console

Charts: Beats Xbox One after a closely contested battle.

GfK Chart-Track has confirmed that PlayStation 4 has bested the previous first week sales record set by PSP, and in the process has beaten Xbox One to become the fastest selling UK console ever.

The PSP - which had higher week one sales than both PS3 and Xbox 360 - originally sold 180-185k units back in 2005, a record that has stood since. Microsoft was unable to beat that figure, but according to Chart-Track Sony achieved significantly more sales and has eclipsed that number.

Two Sony exclusives made this week's multi-format top twenty, with Killzone: Shadow Fall finishing in the top five and Knack managing to chart above Super Mario 3D World, which launched this week on Wii U.

FIFA 14, which was top of last week's chart (thanks to a bump in sales due to being bundled with Xbox One consoles), has slipped to second in this week's top twenty, having once again been usurped by Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Killzone: Shadow Fall, which was included in many of the hardware bundles sold over the weekend, was the best selling game on PlayStation 4. FIFA 14 sold well, selling more than Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 on the platform. Knack, the platform's other exclusive title, was the seventh best selling game on the new console (unless you include tenth placed Injustice, which is cross platform, but didn't launch on Xbox One).

When looking at individual formats, it's no surprise to see Killzone: Shadow Fall top the chart. It's all noteworthy that after just one week, there's only one Xbox One title in the top ten.
