PlanetSide Arena has its launch delayed
Daybreak Games needs more time for feature enhancements and improvements to the core systems, following extensive testing.
PlanetSide Arena was announced last month, a battle-royale based variant on the massive online shooter, PlanetSide 2. Arena is set to introduce a variety of modes seen in previous games of the same ilk - with solo and team options available alongside a huge 250v250 mode - although now we know we'll be seeing all of this a little later than intended.
Initially set to launch on January 29, the spinoff has now been delayed until late March, with an extended beta period set to take place over the next month and the Founders Season to follow. The Founders Season is a pre-order bonus allowing players who put their hard-earned cash down early to get access to the game and exclusive battle pass rewards from February 20.
Daybreak Games cited the delay as a consequence of its closed playtesting period, in which the developers, along with a small section of the community, have been testing the game out since its announcement. Crucial feature enhancements and core systems improvements were deemed necessary, resulting in the delay.
Although the game is primarily a variant on the hugely popular battle-royale genre, Daybreak Games has stated that other modes will be added in the future, including capture the flag, team deathmatch, and search and destroy, meaning eventually PlanetSide Arena will become a more rounded shooter experience for those looking for more variety.
A closed beta will be starting on January 30, with Season 1 starting on March 26, so we don't have long to wait until we can get involved once more.
