Developer id Software has announced that on August 22, next Tuesday, Quake Champions will exit closed beta stage and officially enter Early Access on Steam and the Bethesda.net launcher, and what's more is that this will also include a whole load of new content as well.

"With a fast, skill-based game like Quake Champions, nothing is more important than continual testing and refining, based on player feedback, to ensure the game is balanced, optimised, and fun for all levels of players, from pro to new," said Tim Willits, Studio Director at id Software. "The Early Access version of Quake Champions is, obviously, a work-in-progress, but represents a solid and robust version of the game, with four modes, 11 Champions, a variety of maps, and a thriving community of fans. Early Access will allow us to work closely with players to improve the game and add additional features before the official launch of Quake Champions in the coming months."

To get involved, you'll have to buy the Champions Pack, which unlocks all current and future Champions as well as in-game bonuses, and this will cost you £19.99, discounted from the final retail price of £29.99. This also includes the all new Doom slayer from Bethesda's other famous shooter, an exclusive early access skin for Ranger, and three reliquaries (loot chests containing three in-game items apiece). In regards to Champions, there are 11 currently out for the game, with six coming before the end of the year.

The free-to-play version will launch later, but those who have redeemed a Closed Beta key will be able to continue playing the game in free-to-play form, only via Bethesda.net.

There's more, though, as the other additional content coming with the early access launch includes two new maps (Church of Azathoth and Tempest Shrine); rune challenges; lore items in the arenas, which can unlock lore skins; improve player onboarding like tutorials and a shooting gallery; new customisation options; and in-game voice chat.

Will this be your time to jump in?
