Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox One will not play 3D Blu-rays when it's released later this month, but the platform holder has revealed that their is a chance that the functionality will be introduced at some point in the future.

A Microsoft rep said as much to CNET, conceding that the feature wasn't currently in place for launch. Sony, on the other hand, have confirmed that they are supporting 3D playback of games on PlayStation 4 (films are another matter, we'll have to wait until launch to find out for sure on that front). Whether anybody cares enough for 3D playback to be a game-changer remains to be seen, but if they do it's likely that Microsoft will act and introduce something further down the line.

Xbox One is set to launch in just over a week, on November 22. For more details on the console and the games set to appear on it, head here.
