Quake Live is set to transition from a web browser into a standalone, downloadable game by the end of the year, it has been revealed.
The announcement was made on the Quake Live forums, where it was explained that the website will stay running, but for the purpose of managing clans and viewing profiles. The shift to a downloadable client will give id Software "greater control over the game environment, and more tightly integrate the game with the online components going forward."
