With Valve's big push for Steam Machines and SteamOS there has been rumblings that perhaps Half-Life 3 would be exclusive to the new operating system. In an interview with The Verge, Valve's Doug Lombardi has moved to stop such rumours.
"It's against our philosophy to put a game in jail and say it only works on Steam Machines."
"It works best on Steam Machines, perhaps ... but to get to exclusives or anything else just wouldn't be our style."
When the fact that Half-Life 2 required Steam back when it launched was brought up Lombardi admitted that may not have been their smartest move at the time:
"That may or may not have been a good idea given the condition that Steam was in at the moment."
Of course, we're still waiting to hear when Half-Life 3 may be ready...
