Your wallet can breath a sigh of relief; your Xbox is good for another couple of years.
Word on the street was that a new Xbox console was earmarked to hit shelves in time for Christmas next year. Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, spoke to IndustryGamers and theorised "they won't replace the existing one until sales begin to slow. I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8".
Pachter rounded off his theory by adding "I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don't think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014".
Whilst the graphics on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are starting to date a little, it seems that both Sony and Microsoft are quite happy to extend the life of this current generation of consoles. And with sales still strong for both machines, who can blame them.
