A third chapter in the Riddick series is in development, it has been confirmed.
Vin Diesel confirmed the news in an interview with ScreenCrush: "My diehard gamers want Tigon to deliver the third chapter in the Riddick game. And we just over the past couple of months, just this year, reassembled that team from Starbreeze that brought Escape from Butcher Bay to create the third game."
The game was first mentioned in an interview with IGN back in July: "For all the game lovers out there, we're reassembling the team that made Escape From Butcher Bay. So we got our guys in Sweden that were part of Starbreeze and we're pulling them back together to make the next Riddick game that we're really excited about."
In both interviews there's talk of bringing the team back together to work on the new title, but we're not sure exactly who he's referring to when he talks about the original team, as it's no longer exists. Many of the Starbreeze devs are now working at Machine Games (who are themselves busy with Wolfenstein: The New Order), while others that were involved in the development of Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena are either self-employed or working at other companies - some of those could of course be assembled to work on this new project, so perhaps that's what Vin Diesel means.
Either way, we're excited about the prospect of another outing with Riddick.
