If it was up to Valve and Blizzard, the attempts made by console manufacturers, such as Sony and Microsoft to restrict access through their online services PSN and Xbox Live, would seize, and thus allow users to freely play together.
Blizzard's Frank Pearce told Develop Online that it would be "ideal to have a unified online community regardless of the platform that gamers are playing on".
While Valve's Gabe Newell added that they need to "figure out how to make the internet better instead of figuring out how to keep customers off the internet". One way is a dead end, the other creates more value."
