It seems as if streaming service Twitch might be in a spot of bother in Russia, as Kommersant reports (as brought to us in English by Video Games Chronicle) that Rambler is suing Twitch for 180 billion rubles (equivalent to around $2.9 billion USD), after they claim there are 36,000 cases of Twitch users streaming English Premier League matches on Twitch.

Rambler owns the exclusive rights to these matches, and they're not resting at the monetary recovery, as they also want to have Twitch blocked in Russia as well.

Twitch said in a statement that it "only provides users with access to the platform, does not post its own content, cannot change the content posted by users, or track possible violations of rights."

The company also adds that they took steps to stop these violations, "despite the fact that Rambler did not send any official notifications, only screenshots of pages, and even those without specific dates," as the Twitch statement continues.

The case will be considered in a Moscow City Court on December 20. What could the outcome be?
