Valve removes around 1,000 games from Steam

There's been a concerted effort to clear the database of titles that abuse the Steamworks tools, with one publisher a major target.

Valve has been having an early spring clean it would seem, with around 1,000 games removed from the Steam storefront, with a recent purge following a steady stream of deletions that seems to have taken place over an extended period of time.

The full extent of the clearout can be found on Steam Tools, and it's worth noting that there aren't any major games involved. Our cursory search through the list didn't reveal any surprising names, and we doubt many of the games are going to be missed by the wider Steam community. That said, it does seem like a drastic step to take, especially considering Valve's generally relaxed approach to curation before now.

As noted by one Twitter-user, Alexandra Frock, a "good chunk" of the games come from the same Russian company, Dagestan Technology, and it seems as though the company has been operating under a number of different names. It's not only the web-weaving Russian publisher that appears to be involved, however.

"We recently discovered a handful of partners that were abusing some Steamworks tools," a rep told PC Gamer in response to earlier reports. "We emailed all the affected partners."

What do you make of these removals?
