Sony has revealed that it has established Sony AI, a new organisation with offices in Japan, Europe, and the US, dedicated to advanced fundamental research and development of artificial intelligence, as the name suggests.

In the press release, Sony says that AI can fulfill the company's purpose to "fill the world with emotion, through the power of creativity and technology."

Sony also adds that they plan to "unleash human imagination and creativity with AI."

The company's expertise in Imaging & Sensing Solutions will combine with Robotics and Entertainment to help with the push for AI, and one of the long-term goals is to "contribute to the resolution of shared global issues extending beyond Sony's business domains."

To begin with, Sony AI will launch three flagship project in gaming, imaging & sensing, and gastronomy, and Sony emphasises that this venture will help the gaming business in particular.

Hiroaki Kitano will lead Sony AI, and the American site will be led by Peter Stone.
