We know that Sony will launch the next new entry in PlayStation family consoles, PlayStation 5 around Christmas 2020, and we already knew that the Japanese company has already registered trademarks for PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, PS10. While the videogame giant is preparing for the future, they're also looking at the present updating the global sales data of their PS4 console, offering data related to the last quarter that ended on September 30th, 2019.

Well, as it turns out, PlayStation 4 has almost reached 103 million units sold (more precisely, it's 102.8 million) worldwide. This data allows PlayStation 4 to be the second best-selling home console ever in the history of video games, surpassed only by the PS2 which still remains quite distant with its 155 million units sold. It's now official: PS4 has overtaken Nintendo Wii, which remains at 101.63 million consoles.

According to this information, during the second quarter of the fiscal year 2019, 2.8 million PS4s were sold, with a net decrease compared to what was recorded in the same period during the previous year, in which instead 3.9 million were sold of platforms. However, this is a physiological decline, since the life cycle of the console is now at an end, also in view of the fact that the next generation of consoles is now at the door.
