Shigeru Miyamoto to receive "Person of Cultural Merit" honours

Miyamoto gets recognition in Japan as he is named "Person of Cultural Merit" in November.

Shigeru Miyamoto has been awarded many times around the world for his creations and contributions to the video games industry. Honoured by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, named Hall of Fame member by the US Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, Premio Príncipe de Asturias de Comunicación y Humanidades in Spain or Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France, to name a few. But what about Japan, his homeland?

Well, Miyamoto's life's work has been finally recognised and he will be named "Person of Cultural Merit" by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan on November 6th. This is the second-best honour for live achievements in the country, behind the Order of Culture, granted by Emperor Naruhito himself.

The creator of Mario Bros. told Nikkei after the announcement that video games become part of the japanese culture.
