The upcoming sequel to the 2008 platforming rogue-like adventure Spelunky has been a long time coming and fans were ecstatic when Spelunky 2 was announced. The sequel was supposed to release later this year but in a Twitter post made by Mossmouth's Derek Yu the game might have been pushed out of 2019 to pursue a 2020 release instead.
Yu stated: "Hey, Spelunky fans! Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to get to release Spelunky 2 this year. Development is still going well and we're not far off target, but the density and detail of the game is demanding more time. Thank you for your patience".
The reason for the delay is a fair one and if the extra time will help make the game better, we're not sulking in our seats.
