British actor and director, Andy Serkis has been named as the director for Sony's upcoming sequel to 2018s Venom. After being in contention for the role against fellow director Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Serkis was officially named to have taken the role early this morning, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Serkis announced his position for Venom 2 over Twitter with a post, reading "it's happening. The Symbiote has found a host in me and I'm ready for the ride... Can't wait!" The last film Serkis directed was Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, which was a different take on Disney's Jungle Book, featuring an impressive amount of motion-capture, the very technology Serkis found fame through.

Venom on the other hand, which released last October raked in over $850 million at the global box-office, even though the film itself suffered mixed reviews between critics and the public. You can check out our review of it here.

Do you think Serkis will be able to unify the Venom fanbase?
