CD Projekt's GOG Galaxy app is now is closed beta for its 2.0 update. The client, which is designed for all gamers, combines multiple game libraries into one cohesive unit, whilst simultaneously connecting friends across all platforms (PC and console). Users who receive an invitation to the closed beta for 2.0 will be able to test to updated core features.
The new update will allow users to import all their games from both PC and console into one master collection whilst also launching any PC title, regardless of platform. On top of this, the application will track achievements, hours played and owned games in a library which has loads of new mechanics, such as filtering, sorting, tagging and even adding personalised visuals like game backgrounds.
To accompany the tweaks to the library, the application will allow users to see friends' cross-platform achievements, recently played titles and milestones, as well as providing leaderboards to compare and compete over. The client will also cloud-save all changes, so that they are present across all devices and GOG Galaxy 2.0 will never share your personal data, in fact, users can also remove friend data and imported games from the servers if necessary.
It is worth noting that if you are not quite fortunate enough to receive a closed beta invitation, some of these changes will likely not make it to the live client when the update officially launches. For those interested in signing up however, the application is available for Windows and Mac and only requires a GOG account for access.
Do you think GOG can rival Steam with these new changes?
