After filing for reconstruction late last year, Starbreeze has been going through a turbulent few months, offloading publishing rights of several games. Even back in May we found out that the company is unlikely to last 12 months without extra funding, and now there's even more bad news.
This comes from a new announcement that tells us the number of employees has been reduced by around 60, with the changes expected to be "fully implemented in November".
This decision was taken to make the "organization more efficient and reduce costs", and this reduces to 240-strong team significantly, applying to the Stockholm office of Starbreeze.
"In the past six months we have made a number of changes to the business following our strategy to focus on the core business. We have divested some operations that we consider non-core and we now have to look inward to make the core business more efficient. To make staff reductions is a tough decision to make, but necessary to enable Starbreeze to develop well long-term," says Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze.
