Blizzard Entertainment's co-founder Mike Morhaime has just been named as the recipient of Gamelab 2019's Honor Award. Morhaime will receive the award during the upcoming conference's fifteenth edition, which will be held in Barcelona in a month's time, between June 26 and 28.
The organisation wants to recognise Morhaime's "successful career in gaming and his key role in the creation of some of the most groundbreaking and influential interactive universes of all-time", as stated by Gamelab's director Iván Fernández Lobo, who also adds that "Blizzard Entertainment and the videogames world as a whole wouldn't be what they are today without the dedication, vision, and passion of Morhaime. Beyond his impressive career, it's Mike's kindness and human quality that we admire most".
The award comes eight months after Blizzard's co-founder stepped down as president and CEO, and after 27 years of successfully leading the company since its inception. The company's high-quality standards and the prominence of franchises such as Diablo, World of Warcraft, and Starcraft (on which Morhaime originally worked as developer and producer) in the industry will surely be discussed in Barcelona.
Morhaime joins previous recipients of Gamelab's Honor Award such as Mark Cerny, Yu Suzuki, Toru Iwatani, Todd Howard, and Hideo Kojima. At the same time, Blizzard's co-founder joins this edition's packed speaker list, which already includes AAA names such as Cory Barlog, Randy Pitchford, PlayerUnknown, David Cage, and Peter Molyneux, as were announced recently.
Gamereactor will once again cover Gamelab with special care as official media partner.
