We already knew that the World Health Organisation (WHO) was looking at 'Gaming Disorder' as a harmful behaviour, but WHO has now added it to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) list, something which has brought the discussion up once again.
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida is one of those offering his opinion on the matter, although these comments - reported by Kyodo News - were made before WHO's announcement.
Either way, they're still relevant to the recent news, as he says that "we need to take it seriously and adopt countermeasures" when talking about gaming addiction as a whole.
"We've already implemented a ratings system (to restrict players by age) and have been taking measures based on our own standards," Yoshida continued.
Of course there has been backlash from the gaming community around the classification, which is described as "a pattern of gaming characterized by impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences".
What's your take on the disorder?
