You may well have heard of the company Panic if you've played Firewatch, because this is the company that published the game, and will also be publishing Untitled Goose Game as well. That's not why they're catching attention though, as they've turned heads with their own handheld gaming system instead.
The Playdate, as you can see from the website, is a bit different from other handheld consoles like the Nintendo DS or Game Boy though, because it actually has a crank in the side.
"We love the places they take us and the feelings they give us. We've grown up with them. It sounds silly, but they really mean a lot to us. Playdate is our celebration of the video game," Panic writes.
Game designers like Keita Takahashi and Shaun Inman have contributed to the Playdate, and all of them said yes when shown the machine. It'll get 12 new games, one each week, and the titles themselves will be kept secret until they appear on the console. "Some are short, some long, some are experimental, some traditional. All are fun," Panic explains.
More games are planned for the future, and at launch Panic will share more about what else is on the horizon. As for when this will launch, it'll ship early next year and cost $149 USD.
You can see the concept and the crank in the pictures below. Are you sold yet?
