EA has given Nintendo's new platform, Wii U, lukewarm support since its launch last year with the FIFA and Madden franchises making an appearance as well as Mass Effect 3: Special Edition. Since then it has been revealed that EAs choice of next-gen engine, Frostbite 3, won't support Wii U, and while the following quote from Kotaku may not be the final nail in the coffin of EA support of Wii U it sure does point in that direction:
"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently," said spokes person Jeff Brown.
And while Brown wouldn't rule out Wii U titles in the future, it says a lot about current EA policy that they won't even do lazy ports of games such as FIFA for the Wii U.
At E3 2011 EA offered whole hearted support for Nintendo's new console with Battlefield making an appearance at the Nintendo presser, but since then the relationship has soured. EA aren't alone in the third party camp to stay away from Wii U - Take Two are also on the fence - while publishers like Warner and Ubisoft have shown a lot of support making sure their biggest properties appear on the console.
With sluggish hardware sales, and what we hear is truly abysmal sales of third party software on Wii U - it's hard to argue with EAs position - and perhaps a resurgence in hardware sales could swing them back over. But as it stands - don't count on any EA titles hitting Wii U in the near future.
