We already know that Platinum Games has their hands full with Bayonetta 3, but when studio head Atsushi Inaba recently spoke with Video Games Chronicle, we got to hear about how the studio is gearing up for a big year, and the other project that the studio is working on besides the Bayonetta sequel.

"2019 will be an incredibly important year for us," Inaba explained. "Without speaking directly to the number of titles we may or may not announce, I can say it's going to be a year of some major new approaches, new challenges and new methods for us."

"Basically, we're building a new foundation that in later years will pay dividends. For us, new challenges are going to be very important."

There are changes to the business model coming as a part of this, moving away from external funding from publishers, and there's a reexamination of how the studio structures game design, something that we know has impacted the road to Bayonetta 3.

As for new projects though, the following statement from Inaba should be very exciting for fans of the studio:

"Right now we're in the middle of designing something that has never been done before. I know a lot of people say that, but the game we're working on truly is unlike anything else."

"Even for our varied history of veteran game developers, this is something that has never been designed before. So from a game design perspective, we're very excited right now," he continues.

What could this be?
