Steam is known for being a rather popular PC platform for gaming, it's safe to say, and now PCGamesN has reported that the service has just hit one billion accounts. This news comes courtesy of Steam ID Finder, which reveals that amusedsilentdragonfly is the billionth account.
This doesn't mean a billion people are on Steam, because many of these are probably duplicates or inactive entirely, but it's still impressive considering that's about 1/7 of the entire world's population.
Last year Valve also revealed that they have around 90 million monthly active users on Steam as well, so it's still going strong, although it should be pointed out that Epic is asking questions of Steam's hegemony on PC since they're coming in with big exclusives and a 88/12 revenue split (compared to Steam's 70/30 split).
Where does Steam go from here?
