The launch of the Ouya, the Kickstarted Android-powered console, has been pushed back three weeks due to demand from retailers that the platform holder states is "beyond our expectations". The console was originally supposed to be launching on June 4, but the revised date now points to a June 25 release.
Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman recently posted a blog on the company website that explained: "The demand we're seeing from gamers and our retailers is beyond our expectations, so, to meet all this demand, we are shifting our launch date by three weeks to give us time to make more OUYAs. Our official launch date will be June 25th. "
There also appears to have been an issue surrounding the Ouya's controller, with buttons getting stuck under the faceplate. This has also been remedied, with Uhrman explaining to Joystiq: "I don't know what the exact millimeter is, but we've increased the size just a little bit, so now the buttons don't stick under it. We made that change very early so all the units are being produced with those larger button holes."
According to that report, Kickstarter backers who have already received their console and are experiencing issues with their controllers should contact Ouya customer service in order to resolve the issue.
The console, which is set to retail at £99.99 when it is released next month, has also attracted an additional $15 million in additional funding, which the company says will allow them to "increase production to meet our demand and continue to support game developers who are building innovative and exclusive games for OUYA."
