Chucklefish decided to bypass Kickstarter with their own tiered pre-order initiative and it seems to have worked out very well. The pre-order campaign started on April 13 and within 24 hours they had amassed $250,000, and now they have surpassed $1,000,000 with well over 40,000 customers.
Anyway, Starbound is definitely looking like the next big indie phenomenon sporting procedural content, terraforming and co-operative gameplay in a world that just looks superb. It's very ambitious and should appeal to fans of Terraria.
