According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Tencent and EA are in discussions about bringing Apex Legends to China.
The free-to-play battle royale shooter has proved tremendously popular since it was launched early last week on February 4, and it's no surprise to hear from anonymous sources that are said to be close to the deal that conversations are taking place in the boardroom with regards to launching Apex Legends in the Chinese market.
To release in China, western-based companies need to partner with local publishers. Tencent already has a 40% stake in Epic and therefore helped bring Fortnite to the territory, and they also partnered with the PUBG developer to get that game in the hands of Chinese gamers too. They've even got their own horse in this particular race in the form of Ring of Elysium, all of which paints a picture of a company eager to work in the battle royale space.
The state's approval process has been in full swing since it re-opened for submissions in December, with more than 400 games already considered for release. With that being the case, the instant success of Apex Legends means that EA and Tencent would likely want to bring the game to China and its huge potential audience as soon as possible
