While Apple has a history of odd choices for keyboards in their laptops, they're apparently working on a permanent long-term solution to cope with wear and tear, as well as problems with dust, debris, and other unwanted particles.
The solution seems simple - remove the keyboard altogether. While virtual keyboards are no new thing, Apple has taken the concept to new lengths with a recently discovered patent that includes a number of drawings and descriptions, showing multiple layers with such fantastic descriptions as:
"The array of raised key regions may form a keyboard of the device."
What this means is that the top piece of the glass is able to transform, while a touch sensitive second layer detects input, thus enabling the keyboard to go from touchscreen to tactile feedback keyboard with separated, raised keys.
We strongly encourage interested readers to take a look at the patent. Does this sound like a winning idea?
