As if the trials and tribulations of the Brexit debate aren't enough, the UK government is now turning its head towards gaming as well, with an inquiry launched online and posted on social media.

The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee is a group of MPs that hold no ties to a particular party, but is asking "gamers, parents and teachers" to submit their views about whether gaming should be regulated, how the industry can be supportive, what makes us a world leader in games, and - of course - whether gaming is addictive or not.

The questionnaire shows a wide range of topics covered, such as whether gaming is harmful to society, how the designs of games keep people playing for longer, and what responsibilities designers have towards their players. While gamers can see these things as hostile towards their hobby and industry, this is actually looking to gather data to improve the world of gaming.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of this may be. If the last few years are anything to go by, this may add to the existing debate around lootboxes and microtransactions, as government bodies are looking at gaming and its practices with more and more scrutiny.
