God of War's Cory Barlog explains lack of post-launch DLC

The project would've made more sense as a standalone project, and so Santa Monica Studio decided to leave it be.

Unlike other titles recently released exclusively on PlayStation 4 (Spider-Man, for example) the epic God of War lacks post-launch DLC. That topic was one of the many issues addressed in an interview hosted by YouTube channel Kinda Funny (via GamingBolt) with the game director Cory Barlog, who had the opportunity to talk in depth about the matter.

As revealed by Barlog, initially Santa Monica Studios was willing to expand the game starring Kratos and his son Atreus with additional content, but things changed when they realised that the potential DLCs were simply too ambitious and more akin to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in terms of scope, and it was for that reason that plans for expansions were shelved.

"I had a really fun idea for a DLC," Barlog told the hosts. "But it was too ambitious in the sense that it was like a Left Behind, it was like a Lost Legacy kind of thing. It would end up being its own thing [...] Rightfully so, everybody had said like, 'Dude, this is crazy, this isn't DLC, it's a little too big'."

Barlog clearly seemed enthused about the projects, so maybe we'll see those ideas emerge at some point in the future. Here's hoping.
