It's no secret that digital sales of games and, well, pretty much everything have grown in recent years, and now a new report based on the Entertainment Retailers Association figures indicates that in the UK this makes up a very large portion of video game purchases.

Of the £3.68 billion made by the market last year, 80% of that (or £3.09 billion) was made via digital sales, with the rest of the £770 million coming from the physical market. This isn't all that surprising, especially when you consider that digital includes subscription services, microtransactions, and DLCs, all of which helped to push it up 12.5% when compared to 2017.

Physical sales, on the other hand, are down 2.8%, although the overall sales revenue for games has increased by 9.1%. Some audiences tend to prefer physical copies, however, as 75% of FIFA 19's sales were physical, being the highest-selling physical game in the UK too.

Is this a surprise to you?
