You might know the name Rebellion in the gaming world for helping produce games like Strange Brigade and Sniper Elite, but now the media company has announced that they've bought a $100 million USD facility of 220,000 square feet to convert into a film studio near its Oxford headquarters, creating 500 new jobs in the process.

The building itself is an old printing press and can house TV shows and big-budget films, having multiple sound stages to facilitate that. This is actually Rebellion's second film studio after their previous three-stage option though, which is Europe's largest performance capture stage and houses the motion-capture company Audiomotion.

What's more is that Judge Dredd fans will be pleased to hear that the drama Mega-City One, based on the Dredd universe, will be produced in this studio, as well as the feature Rogue Trooper. Sound stage and production space will also be available to rent, which improves options for those outside of Rebellion as well.

The studio is open right now but we'll see all of the facilities open in the next few months, so it's very exciting times for Rebellion. CEO Jason Kingsley seems to be taking it in his stride though, tweeting:

"This morning; announce $100m studio complex, have toast and a decent cup of tea, feed and muckout horses, ride and train said horses, get up tomorrow at stupid o'clock to go on Today program BBC R4. I like it."

Margot James, Minister for Digital and the Creative Industries, said: "I'm delighted to see one of the UK's leading independent video game developers branching further into film and TV with this ambitious studio investment in Oxfordshire. This is yet another vote of confidence in our world-leading creative industries and the government is committed to stimulating creativity, broadening opportunities and securing even more growth for this booming sector."
