Twisted Metal and God of War creator David Jaffe has been in the headlines quite a bit recently, as not only has he recently claimed that he's not sure whether he'll make more games, but now he has claimed on YouTube that "current AAA games are dying".
Now there's a bit more to unpack here, as what he's really focusing on is the repetitive feeling of these games, using Uncharted as an example, which he says plays the same in the fourth game as it does in the original. Unsurprisingly, this garnered a lot of attention on Twitter, and when accused of saying these games are bad, Jaffe responded:
"Who in the world said Uncharted is bad?!? I sure as f*** didn't. Also, in that very video I talk about how Naughty Dog is second to MAYBE only Sony Santa Monica when it comes to execution. Do I think the AAA 3rd person action/adv genre is atrophying and that Uncharted is a great example of that? I sure do! But that doesn't in any way mean I think that series is BAD. That's a ridiculous jump to make, sir."
Jaffe did also acknowledge on Twitter that the title of the video might have been a little strong:
"The folks over at ResetEra had a good point about the title of my latest video being inflammatory. That was not the intent; I was just caught up in the passion of the topic. But I hear them, and they are right. I've changed it. Ok, off to buy a tree! I love you!"
In the video he points out the "moment-to-moment" mechanics and gameplay being similar to each other, and says that this extends to a lot of AAA games, not just Uncharted. He also says that those who don't agree will probably feel the same in a few years.
Do you agree?
