Yesterday we received the sad news of Stan Lee's passing. The man from Marvel created some of the most iconic superheroes of all time, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, and The Avengers (among others). Despite his venerable age (Lee was 95-years-old), fans around the world have been rocked by this unexpected news and even the video game industry - which naturally is populated by a huge number of comic book fans - has paid tribute to him.
Among those paying homage was Microsoft's Phil Spencer, who wanted to offer some words over on Twitter: "The characters, stories and worlds he created have been a fundamental part of my life for so long. Sad day." Another prominent industry figure, Bethesda's Pete Hines, was another dev who paid his respects, and the folks over at the newly acquired Microsoft studio, Obsidian, were among those who honoured him with his iconic phrase: "Excelsior."
As well as creating some of the most enduring superheroes, Stan Lee got a reputation for making cinematic cameos in the movies based on his characters. Those fleeting appearances even extended to the world of video games, and we'll always fondly remember his digital appearance in Spider-Man by Insomniac Games, which released this September. Rest in peace, Stan.
