Microsoft has posted record results in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2019, ending on September 30, as global revenue grew 19% year-on-year - up to $29.1 billion USD - and the gaming division did its part, as the company said in a press release briefing.

Gaming revenue increased 44%, with great results both in hardware and software. The main factor cited by Microsoft is "Xbox software and services revenue growth of 36% mainly from third-party title strength," but income from sales of Xbox One X also helped the hardware division jump 94% YoY. This is the last quarter that Microsoft compares pre- and post-Xbox One X launch figures, with the new system's selling point being more than double that the one of the Xbox One S.

Subscription services are becoming more and more important for the company too, as CEO Satya Nadella announced Xbox Game Pass is also coming to PC. The US-only purchase plan Xbox All Access also saw "strong consumer response and exceeded sales expectations," while Xbox Live Gold subscribers achieved a new high with 57 million users.
