How big is the VR market today? From CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar's point of view, at least, it's not as big as he'd expected. Following the loss of two of its studios in Atlanta and Newcastle - the former of which was closed, the latter sold - he spoke in an interview with Destructoid about VR, where he explains the state of the market right now.
"We expected VR to be two to three times as big as it was, period," he explained. "You can't build a business on that."
"May of last year (2017) is when we started to figure it out. Was it a surprise? Maybe. But the picture was filling in that there would not be a way to continue with VR as heavily as we were," he added.
With that said, Veigar still hopes that VR can come good, with the Oculus Quest as a potential saviour. "If it does take off, and I mean if, we'll re-assess," he said. "It was right to stop, and it was right to start. I remain a long-term believer of VR."
