Trion Worlds - the developer behind Defiance 2050 and Rift - has laid off a significant portion of its staff after an acquisition by Gamigo, according to a report from Gamasutra, who say that a source told them "there has been a transaction involving Trion Worlds and its games".
The source has indicated that the layoff "may have affected the vast majority of the studio" and "only 25 or so employees were given the opportunity to continue on with the studio." Before the layoff, Trion Worlds had as many as 200 employees. As for the games themselves, Trion posted an announcement on their Rift forums, saying:
"We'd like to assure our communities that the games will continue on in capable hands moving forward, as everyone involved is aiming to make this transition as smooth as possible for you. We will have more information to reveal as soon as we possibly can."
