A few days ago, we reported that Obsidian Entertainment might be in talks with Microsoft with regards to the purchase of the studio by the Redmond-based company.
At the moment there's still nothing confirmed or official on the matter, but many have begun to express themselves on the issue, notably including industry veteran Chris Avellone, who has collaborated with Obsidian on developing games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Neverwinter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol and, of course, the hugely popular Fallout: New Vegas.
Responding to a user on Twitter, Avellone had this to say: "It'd be bad for both in the long run for different reasons... but hell, short term, it'd be hard to say no when MS is waving $$$ at a company you've wanted to sell for a long time. I'd just be careful to find out why they want to sell and if key personnel are going to stay".
What do you think of this possible acquisition by Microsoft? Would the RPG-specialists be a good fit for Microsoft's growing portfolio of first-party studios?
